Inspired by you, our viewers, Natasha launched her Pay it Forward initiative in 2021. Join our virtual 'club' of charity makers with a different subsidised make offered each month. This month's kit is worth in excess of £30!
You will receive fabrics at an amazing price - all that we ask is that you make something in order to pass on joy in some way.
You could create an item using your kit and gift it to a local charity or use your kit to teach someone else to sew... If it brings or gifts joy to another, it fulfils the brief!
This month's project is a fidget quilt kit.
People with dementia often find having something for their hands to do comforting; this is especially true for those who are in unfamiliar surroundings like a hospital or care home.
Fidget quilts are usually made with a variety of textures and embellishments, helping to keep the hands of those with dementia occupied and to instil a feeling of calm. It is thought that different textiles can help to stimulate memory, so we recommend that you embrace this project and incorporate lots of different elements, designed to trigger the senses.
This project provides a perfect opportunity to try your hand at different sewing techniques: zip insertion, appliqué, buttonholes and much more! Of course it is also a great outlet for some of your scraps and leftover hardware.
